Mexico plays a pivotal role in the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) and is a significant trade partner across various industries, with the automotive sector being particularly influential.

Having benefited from both the former North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and now CUSMA, as well as other free trade agreements with Canada, such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Mexico ranks as the seventh-largest country for the assembly of original equipment manufacturers (OEM) of passenger vehicles.

As a result, numerous Canadian automotive companies are actively engaged in Mexico or are exploring opportunities in the market. Export Development Canada (EDC) has been closely involved with these companies. Drawing from over two decades of leadership in this outreach, here are some of my key insights.
