In recognition of Black History Month in February, many will honor the accomplishments and contributions of Black Canadians who have helped shape Canada into the diverse and thriving nation it is today. Black businesses play a crucial role in economic growth, but continue to face significant obstacles in expanding and becoming profitable.

Dave D’Oyen, the first national lead for Black exporters at Export Development Canada, has a challenging task ahead of him. His role is to develop a strategy that will enable Black entrepreneurs to succeed and expand on a global scale.

D’Oyen, full of optimism, is eager to tackle this new challenge and break new ground at EDC in support of Black business owners – a first in the organization’s 77-year history.
