Climate change will exacerbate the increase in health expenditure already anticipated due to aging populations. The number of people aged 60 and older in the EU 27 member states, Norway, and Switzerland is projected to grow from around 130 million today to 152 million. Consequently, health costs per capita are expected to rise by 8.5% by 2035. However, climate change could further aggravate this increase, disproportionately impacting older individuals. From 2000 to 2023, climate change has already caused 157,000 premature deaths in the European countries under analysis.
