Rising loss activity in the shipping industry is putting pressure on insurers. Between 2022 and 2024 there were close to 160,000 cargo-related crimes across 129 countries, according to data from the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA). Though hijackings, warehouse break-ins and opportunistic theft continue to be an issue, fraud through digital vulnerabilities is now on the rise resulting in new challenges for insurers.
