Freight crime and cargo abandonment are the latest challenges for the freight industry. A recent report indicates key target cargos are food and beverage items, followed by agricultural goods, electronics and fuel. These shipments are swept up in various ways including hijackings, theft of entire vehicles and items taken from within facilities. The recently released Cargo Theft Tactics and Trends Report 2025 indicates the methods used by thieves include “fraudulent carriers, falsified documentation, AI-assisted impersonation and remote system access” with incidents occurring in multiple regions, include the US, UK and Germany. Insurance Business has more details on this growing credit risk exposure.
