Poof! and just like that the Philippines banana industry could loose US$200M in revenue due to the Middle East conflict. This market has grown recently as the industry worked to diversify its markets. The move into the Middle East accounted for 12% of the Philippines’ banana export value last year and Iran alone imported “242,877 tonnes in 2025, a 47% increase from 2024, representing 8% of total fresh banana exports.”
It now appears that move to diversify has hit a sudden roadblock and highlights the need for trade credit insurance. Read more.
